US Appoints Special Investigator in Trump-Russia Probe

Trump is in hot water over his handling of Comey’s dismissal, his possible request to have the FBI back off investigating Mike Flynn, and his alleged passing of key information to Russia. In a response to all this, the US deputy attorney-general has just hired former FBI director Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia. Deputy attorney-general Rosentein said “Based upon the unique circumstances, the public interest requires me to place this investigation under the authority of a person who exercises a degree of independence from the normal chain of command … I am confident that he will follow the facts, apply the law and reach a just result”.

FINSUM: This is essentially what many have been calling for. Now only time will tell what happens. As details emerge, it could have an effect on markets, just like what occurred yesterday…
